Blind Dog Otis started as a thought. Then it was a word (logos). Actually, it was first a dog. I have a dog. He is blind. His name is Otis. His name is my homage to Otis Rush. Not Otis Redding (although he was fantastic) or Otis Campbell (the drunk on the Andy Griffith Show). Blind Dog Otis is the band's homage to the dog. Through stunning strength, perseverance, intelligence and dignity, he makes his way through life. We were trying acknowledge this and also trying to tap into a little of his mojo. Blind Dog Otis was formed as a result of our wanting a clean slate to conceive, write, arrange and perform original music. Our other band incarnation, The Electric Company, performs in clubs, bars, restaurants, dives, armpits and flea-pits throughout Mississippi. We also perform at weddings, bar mitzvahs, rent parties, birthday parties, wing-dings and fish fries. We felt we had a pretty good group and thought we would see if we couldn't blow some cash on a record. "If you want to have some fun..." Well, we blew the cash... I guess you could say that Blind Dog Otis is a studio group...sort of. Using personal tastes as a guide, Blind Dog Otis draws on many influences to establish the atmosphere of a performance or when writing. Blind Dog Otis is a band that loves blues. While acknowledging the traditional champions of the blues by incorporating these masters’ touches, songs, colors and portraits, Blind Dog Otis welcomes the inherently progressive side of this music. Blind Dog Otis embraces the idea that the blues is the “original alternative” music.
